Parental Seperation and Divorce (One Minute Guide) - Child

Going through a separation or divorce is one of the toughest situations you may ever face as a parent. Not only do you have to deal with the practicalities of a divorce or separation - along with your own feelings of hurt, anger and bewilderment - you also have the needs +of your children to think about.

Things you can do to help your children:
* Try to minimise tension
* Tell your child what is happening and its not their fault
* Try to maintain routines to help your child feel more secure
* Listen to your children and talk to them about their feelings
* Look at things through the child's eyes
* Try to protect your children from adult worries and responsibilities
* Understand your child's behavior
* Tell their nursery or school about the situation
* Be positive about the other parent
* Allow friends to visit them at both homes
