Paying for Childcare

If you use registered childcare because you are at work or are studying, you might be able to get some help towards the fees. Below are the most common forms of help.

 

Working parents

If you work then you may be able to get help via the Childcare Element of Working Tax credits. There is also help available via your employer in the form of the salary sacrifice scheme, work place nurseries or childcare vouchers. The amount you can claim is dependent on your family's circumstances and your childcare costs.

Student parents

If you are parent who is studying there are different forms of help available. These include the Childcare Grant, Access to Learning Fund and Parent’s Learning Allowance.

Free early learning for 2 year olds

Depending on your circumstances, your child might be entitled to free early learning of upto 570 hours for the year. To find out more visit the Free places for 2 year olds page.

 

Free Early Years Entitlement for 3 and 4 year olds

From the term after their 3rd birthday, all children aged 3 and 4 years are able to have a free early years place at a variety of settings across the borough.
